> [!leaf] What Matters
You are at a fork in the road and there are no signposts. This crossroads
represents a time in your life that is still in that liminal in-between space and fast approaching the need for a decision. Your decision point is likely related to a big change in your life that may even feel like a change of identity. What will you do?
When pulling this card, chances are good that your immediate choice might be to procrastinate in making a decision. And that’s okay. You can use this time to resist the pressure to act; to go within and focus on understanding yourself and the truth of your situation. However, while it might be easiest to hang about in limbo, don’t stay here. Doing so is the shadow side of this card. Whatever it is that needs resolved is not something that’s just going to go away.
When you do make a choice, make it using both head and heart, intellect and intuition. Dig deep enough and you will realize that both are giving you the same message. Once you see that, trust yourself and move forward in whatever direction feels right for you.
> [!leaf] Actions
1. If you are not sure what the crossroads is about, look for an issue to which you’ve been turning a blind eye. If you still don’t know, channel the energy of the related [[2 - High Priestess]]. Relax and settle your mind. Try meditating.
2. Work to release any restrictive thoughts or beliefs that are impacting your ability to act in your own best interests. If that’s too difficult, follow the “fake it ‘til you make it” philosophy and act as if you know what to do!
3. Go ahead and follow any enthusiasms that seem unrelated to your decision. Trust that you’ll likely gain some valuable insights that will inform your decision. But even if you don’t, following new sparks means you’ll have some new times of joy.
4. Journal or freewrite in response to either of the following questions or the quote:
- What would I rather not know? What are the costs and benefits of ignoring this?
- When I faced an important choice point in the past, what did I do to resolve it? How did that work out for me, and what can I take from that experience to help me now?

![[2 of Swords - RWS.webp|300]]
> [!leaf] Symbolism
So much of the interpretation of the RWS card is based on how you see the woman. Is she under strain holding those two swords aloft? If so, the blindfold means she’s turning a blind eye to the truth of what she knows deep inside (hands covering her heart) and willing to sit in the painful indecision of holding up those heavy swords rather than take action. The rippling water indicates her emotional unease.
Or does the woman look calm and centred to you? If so, she can’t see what’s coming, doesn’t have all of the facts yet, but she’s okay with waiting because she knows who she is at her core. She is between the land and the sea, the new moon and the full moon, and she is perfectly balanced and comfortable.
Same image, two very different interpretations. But that’s how symbols work. If they had defined meanings, they’d be signs. See [[Is It a Sign or a Symbol?]]
