This concept comes from W. B. Yeats. Like [[Active Imagination]], it involves interacting with an image, but in the case of Active Virtue the thing you are engaging with is a mask, a physical mask.
Treat the mask as an [[Archetypal Character]] rather than an individual. So it could be the mask of a fool, for example, or the mask of 'a mother'.
Ask the mask to name three objects near it. Then you relate each object to an aspect of your life. An example: "This pen (near a writer mask) reminds me of my wish to be a conduit, ideas flowing through me like ink from the pen."
> [!Orbit] Oscar Wilde
> Man is least himself when he talks in his own person. Give him a mask, and he will tell you the truth.
