Up: [[Calling]] Created: 2022-02-08 If Calling is the idea that we’re here on earth, at this time, in this place, for a particular purpose, is that purpose our destiny? Or does destiny, like fate, imply inevitability, that we have no choice, where we do have a choice in responding to a Calling? I need to do more work on this but my current thinking is that Calling is neither destined nor fated. [[James Hillman]], in *The Soul's Code*, p. 193, makes an important distinction between fatalism, the belief in a divine plan for your life, and fate, an unusual event that doesn’t fit with the general pattern of your life. Fate is worth paying attention to on the assumption that the break in the pattern means something, has some reason for being. So, certain experiences with our [[Daimon]] may come to us as moments of fate, but we still have the power of choice over our life as a whole, so we are neither fated nor destined to live out our Calling. Next I was wondering, if Calling is the same as individuation, isn’t that destiny? No, it isn’t. [[Individuation]] isn’t a requirement and it is a journey without a destination.
