[[Every Archetype is Both Light and Shadow]]. Tarot is a system of archetypes, so every tarot card has a shadow.
There are some Majors that are considered prime shadow cards
- [[2 - High Priestess]]
- [[13 - Death]]
- [[15 - Devil]]
- [[18 - Moon]]
But even typically positive cards have a shadow aspect. [[Alyssa Polizzi]] gives three examples.
[[10 of Cups]]
This is the rainbow and butterflies card of happy families. It’s hard to imagine a card of more perfect happiness and connection. And that’s the point. The shadow side of this card is believing in and trying to attain this impossible perfection.
[[6 of Wands]]
Heroically overcoming obstacles, thrilled with a sense of energy and excitement over your triumph. The shadow side is being overwhelmed by insecurities and having trouble accepting that you are worthy of recognition.
[[3 - Empress]]
The Empress is nurturing, connected to the natural world, and all about creative potential. In her shadow aspect is the devouring mother and the destructive elements of nature.
