It’s about non-attachment and trusting our spirituality. #### The Task The task at this gate is one of deep reflection and acceptance. This is where we ask ourselves the big questions of our lives, such as “Have I lived and loved well?” and “Has my life been meaningful?” > [!Orbit] [[Angeles Arrien]] in *The Second Half of Life* > This is where we learn and live the difference between *knowing about* the Mystery and *knowing from direct experience of* the Mystery, as we approach our passage, stewarded by death, into the great unknown. (p.139) #### The Challenge Befriending death can only happen if we feel that our life had meaning and significance, and if we can bring closure to our lives with no outstanding regrets. If a regret can be resolved, do so. If it can’t, the task is to let it go, to truly accept situations rather than simply resign ourselves to them. #### A Practice or Three Try to live each day as if it were your last. Note: This is incredibly difficult to do. Write your obituary. Engage in [[Life Writing]]. This can take all kinds of forms. See [[Life Writing Ideas]] and [[Patterns for Coding Life Writing]], which includes Arrien’s suggestion of a Book of Revelations. #### The Gift The gift is fearlessness in the face of death, a calm peacefulness and allowing. #### Prompts to Consider - How do you honour your ancestors? What qualities in them would you like to emulate? - What was your first experience of death? Who died? What impact did this event have upon you? How has your relationship to death changed since then? - What do you need to mend or finish in your life to feel complete? What do you need to say or do? > [!user] [[Angeles Arrien]] in *The Second Half of Life: Opening the eight gates of wisdom* > The Gold Gate: Nonattachment, Surrender, and Letting Go
