Apparently there’s a tradition in the west of Ireland that whichever corpse is last to be put in a graveyard, that corpse must sweep the graveyard and keep it tidy. If two funerals occurred at the same time, the cart-drivers would whip their horses and race the final lap in order to get their corpse in there first.
This appeals to me because it offers such a fun, playful and strong visual. I’d love to play with a whole pile of different ways to create this through art.
