Up: [[The In-Between Times]] Created: 2024-01-18 Updated: 2025-01-11 A physical liminal space is a space we go through on our way from one place to someplace else. When jumping from one cliff to another, the space in the air is liminal. Twilight is a liminal space between day and night. So is dawn. Public spaces when they are empty are liminal — a train station in the middle of the night; an empty airport, stadium, or mall. So are places that give us a feeling of [[Nostalgia]] such as drive-in movie theatres and playgrounds. And, finally, really anything that feels like a portal between two spaces — a long hallway, a bridge, even a hotel room. The thing about liminal spaces, as you can probably guess from the above, is that they can be a bit eerie, leaving us feeling unrooted, without a sense of place.
