Up: [[Pay Attention MOC]] ## Defining Savour To savour is to give yourself over to the enjoyment of something. You can savour many things, even imaginary things. The word ‘savour’ came initially from Latin ‘sapor’, meaning ‘taste, flavour’. It broadened in an Old French revision around the year 1300 to mean “to taste, breathe in; appreciate, care for.” ## Reasons to Savour Savouring adds pleasure to life. The more we notice, the more we appreciate. And noticing and appreciating means more vitality, more aliveness, more awareness that I am alive and experiencing the beauty and wonder this world has to offer. As Einstein famously said, > [!Orbit] Albert Einstein > There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle. ## Savouring Requires ### Use of your senses - [[Savouring Happens through the Senses]] - [[Quotes - Senses]] - [[Sight]] - [[Hearing]] - [[Touch]] - [[Smell]] - [[Taste]] ### Noticing and paying attention to what is noticed - [[Quotes - Mindfulness]] - [[Meditation Can Get in the Way of Embodiment]] - [[SIBAM, a Somatic Experiencing Process]] - [[Witness]] ### Openness to curiosity, wonder, awe, beauty - [[Tracking Wonder]] - [[Quotes - Beauty]] - [[Appreciation of Beauty]] - [[How to Get Curious When You're Not]] - [[What Makes Me Come Alive]] - [[Let Joy Drive the Bus]] ### Being present in the moment so all of the above can happen It is possible to savour a memory, but even then it’s in this moment that you’re recalling the details of that memory. - [[Capturing a Moment]] - [[Heightened Awareness is the Gift]] - [[Statio]] ## Poems - [Small Kindnesses](https://grateful.org/resource/small-kindnesses/) - Danusha Lameris - [Today](https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poetrymagazine/poems/40824/today-56d21ebdad746) - Billy Collins - [Don’t Hesitate](https://www.wordslikethis.com.au/dont-hesitate/) - [[Mary Oliver]] - [A Humble Aliveness](https://ahundredfallingveils.com/2024/03/21/a-humble-aliveness/) - [[Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer]] - [The Radiant Now](https://ahundredfallingveils.com/2024/05/15/the-radiant-now/) - [[Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer]] - [Now](https://www.litscape.com/author/Ella_Wheeler_Wilcox/Now.html) - Ella Wheeler Wilcox - [Mindful](https://www.mindfulnessassociation.net/words-of-wonder/mindful-mary-oliver/) - [[Mary Oliver]] - [In the Meantime](https://ahundredfallingveils.com/2024/09/02/in-the-meantime/) - [[Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer]] - [Bowing at the Feet of the Ordinary](https://ahundredfallingveils.com/2024/08/25/bowing-at-the-feet-of-the-ordinary/) - [[Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer]] - [Smack Dab in the Middle of a Thursday](https://ahundredfallingveils.com/2023/12/07/smack-dab-in-the-middle-of-a-thursday/) - [[Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer]] - [The Summer Day](https://www.loc.gov/programs/poetry-and-literature/poet-laureate/poet-laureate-projects/poetry-180/all-poems/item/poetry-180-133/the-summer-day/) - [[Mary Oliver]]
