Wheel of the Year is Celtic. It comes from a first century Cologne calendar that included Beltane and Lughnasadh. Other sources filled in Samhain and Imbolc.
In our calendar, the four major festivals are the solar ones at the solstices and equinoxes. They mark the start of the seasons. In the Celtic calendar, those festivals are actually in the middle of the seasons. And for the Celts, each new day started at sunset.
I’ve recently (September 2024) made a switch from yearly to seasonal planning using the equinoxes and solstices.
