Up: [[Mystery]] Created: 2022-07-10 Updated: 2026-02-07 Wheel of the Year is Celtic. It comes from a first century Cologne calendar that included Beltane and Lughnasadh. Other sources filled in Samhain and Imbolc. In our calendar, the four major festivals are the solar ones at the solstices and equinoxes. They mark the start of the seasons. In the Celtic calendar, those festivals are actually in the middle of the seasons. And for the Celts, each new day started at sunset. The Wheel of the Year appeals to me for the same reason that in September 2024 I switched from yearly to seasonal planning. I like the focus on cycles, on repeating patterns. Something happening approximately every six weeks gives a nice rhythm to the year. ## Four Fire Festivals - [[Imbolc]] (February 1st) - [[Beltane]] (May 1st) - [[Lughnasadh]] (August 1st) - [[Samhain]] (October 31st) ## Four Solar Festivals
