Up: [[Hestia]] Created: 2024-05-01 Hestia was worshipped for 900 years, from 500 BC until around 400 AD when Christianity took over. Although worship of this wonderful goddess has ended, there are [[Rituals]] that continue that can be related to Hestia, including: - In Greece on Good Friday, people light candles from a central flame at church and bring home the lit candle. - The Olympic torch - The ritual of a bride and groom lighting a candle together from the flames of two candelabra to symbolize the creation of the new family from their two old families is thought to be derived from the practice of bringing Hestia’s flame from the bride’s mother’s home to light the new hearth and have Hestia bless the union. - Lighting candles or flames to initiate sacred work or when setting intentions is practiced across cultures, and by me, every day!
