Because Hestia spent all of her time in the house of the gods, her only manifestation among humans was the crackling of the fire, which Aristotle claimed was the sound of Hestia laughing.
She was sometimes painted on Athenian vases as a woman cloaked in a head veil. Sometimes she had a staff in her hand, or she was by a large fire, sitting on a plain wooden throne with a white wooden cushion. But Hestia is difficult to identify in early art because there wasn’t an easily identifiable object associated with her. The most celebrated statue of her is the Giustiniani Vesta.
But for the most part, Hestia wasn’t personified. In fact there are ancient injunctions to only see her as the living flame.
Instead, she’s represented by a sacred flame and a [[Circle]], or a sacred flame in the centre of a round hearth.

The kettle is sometimes a symbol of Hestia.
Three stones that represent her are:
- Heart stone — not a particular stone. It’s a stone found near your home that seems right for you. You have to return it to where you found it when you move.
- Red garnet — the colour of fire, used for protection and strength. Red garnet represents love, is attuned to heart energy, revitalizes feeling, and encourages self-confidence.
- Vanadinite — colour of home and hearth
