Up: [[Body Awareness]] Created: 2024-11-03 I first learned of this idea from analyst Kathleen Wiley who applied it to an activity where we tracked body sensations. But the original idea actually comes from cultural anthropologist, [[Angeles Arrien]]. I love that my library is rich and extensive enough that I could go to the shelf and find Arrien’s original words on this subject. The idea is that if we can track our experiences, we can integrate them. These categories could be used anytime, including for seasonal reviews. #### River of Surprise For Kathleen, this was about what surprised us in the body scan. For Angeles, this was how we handle the unexpected that shows flexibility or attachments. #### River of Challenge For Kathleen, again it’s just whatever we found challenging in the activity. For Angeles, think of a challenge as an invitation to grow. #### River of Inspiration For Kathleen, in body work it is where I feel the breath of expansion. For Angeles, what brings me hope? #### River of Love I like Kathleen’s working definition of love as compassionate presence. Where in the body scan did I have an experience of compassionate presence? Angeles says love is where we have the capacity to be touched and moved by life.
