For this activity, do your body scan sitting in a chair with paper and marker, pen or pencil.
Breathe. Notice your body sitting on the chair.
What shape does your body feel like? Is there an image that comes to mind? Settle on a simple shape. It can be the shape of your body.
Scrawl it on the page.
Close your eyes. Breathe. Now tune into your feet. What sensation do you feel? Is there a shape, line, texture, or colour? Map it onto the body shape on your page.
Work through your body in as much detail as you can — legs, hips, lower back, lower stomach, upper chest, heart, neck, shoulders, arms to fingertips, head. For each sensation, draw it. Go with your first impulse and accept that some sensations are going to be more clear than others.
Once done, start back at your feet and write a word or phrase that tells each sensation.
If you want to go deeper, you can take one area of your body and explore it further with more shape, line, colour, and writing.
