Up: [[Savour]] Created: 2024-05-23 The idea is to take an experience and look at it through five different channels. A somatic practitioner wouldn’t work through the channels in sequence, but it’s worthwhile for me as a mindfulness practice that helps me get more in touch with my body. Stay in each channel giving sufficient attention to it before moving on to the next. Don’t let stuff leak from one channel to another. ### 1. Sensation Physical sensations in my body ### 2. Images Visuals or scenes that come to mind ### 3. Behaviour What actions are happening in my body in response to this experience? Or if they are not happening, what does my body want to do in response? Examples include things like heart rate increasing, breathing shallowing, clenching fists, wanting to run, wanting to curl up In a full session, a practitioner might actually have you doing the action your body wants. Alyssa needed to push against a wall and scream, felt stupid and awkward doing it, but noticed a difference afterwards. ### 4. Affect Emotions/feelings. Try to name them. ### 5. Meaning What story am I telling myself about what happened and what it means. What is the narrative? What thoughts or beliefs are coming up? After doing all of this, can look to see which channels are calling for more exploration and can spend more time there. > [!user] Information from Golden Shadow podcast on Somatic Experiencing > With Arran Rogerson and [[Alyssa Polizzi]]
