G. Jung]] in *Collected Works 11* > Among all my patients in the second half of life — that is to say, over 35 — there has been not one whose problem in the last resort was not that of finding a religious outlook on life….This of course has nothing to do with a particular creed or membership of a church. (para. 509) I would once have said that spirituality was an aspirational value for me, but since engaging in a Jungian analysis, a religious or spiritual outlook has become a more active, more alive value in my life. This is because Jung sees the value of religion as a tool for expressing the unconscious. He writes, > [!Orbit] [[C. G. Jung]] in *Collected Works 10* > Religions are psychotherapeutic systems in the truest sense of the word, and on the grandest scale. They express the whole range of the psychic problem in mighty images; they are the avowal and recognition of the soul, and at the same time the revelation of the soul’s nature. (para. 367) I have a great deal more to explore in this area, but in shortcut terms, I want to both experience and help others experience the divine in the mundane and the universal in the particular, so that the everyday world becomes a symbol of something more profound. This involves, among other things, paying attention to and participating in moments of beauty and sparkle. That’s really what [[Beams]] are all about for me. I have a devotional nature, and I’m a romantic. I have to believe and I do believe that there is a higher reality, although at this point I couldn’t say more than that, don’t even know what I mean by that. So a big part of this value is me exploring my inner world, the world of myth and symbol, and symbolic systems like Tarot.
