Jung]] said that the body and mind are different densities of the same energy. This part of Jung’s writing doesn’t get talked about a lot, but it’s important because without body, there is no psyche. We suffer from an artificial split between body and mind, believing that consciousness is a function only of our brains. That’s not true. In addition to head, there is also heart and gut. The shadow side of Jungian psychology is that we can get lost in soaring with images and archetypes. They are hugely important for helping us to know ourselves. But we also need the grounding of body in order to assimilate what we discover into our individual Self. Body and mind are complementary systems. So we need to be able to have an ongoing dialogue with the sensations or feelings of our bodies and if we can’t, we need to be aware of and challenging the attitudes and beliefs that are preventing us.
