Most of the [[Challenges of Active Imagination]] have to do with our Ego wanting to run the show. But Jung said that there is an equal partnership between consciousness and the unconscious in an Active Imagination, so we don’t want to try to turn the Ego off, even if we could. [[The Ego has a Role in Active Imagination]].
What we must do is walk a fine line between being pushed by the imaginal too much, and allowing ourselves to be open to something that might want to make itself known.
Active Imagination is a skill. Skills develop through practice. Jungian analyst and regular practitioner of Active Imagination, [[Ken James]], reassures us that the more we practice, the more our Ego will allow itself to surrender when needed and assert when needed.
The skill of Active Imagination develops at its own pace. Don’t worry about whether it’s working or not. Jung says that for the first long while, we have to be able to *endure the tenuous webs of fantasy with no indication of origin or goal.* You’re not doing it wrong. Keep going.
