He gave Odysseus a bag of wind to help him sail. I love in this painting that all of the birds honour him. Eolian or Aeolian are adjectives meaning related to or caused by the winds. The adjectives are eponyms meaning that they are words coined from someone’s name. The children of Aeolus were also wind gods, each corresponding to the cardinal directions from which they came. Boreas was from the North, Notus from the South, Zephyrus from the West, and Eurus from the East.
