While we might say, “Wow, I had a big dream last night!” Jungians reserve the term for a very particular and quite rare type of dream.
A big dream is always **numinous**, meaning it has a lot of power, feels like it’s coming from some place outside of you, has religious or spiritual significance, and is so intensely moving that you may remember it your entire life.
A 'big dream' doesn't feel like it belongs to you because it contains archetypal rather than personal material. In other words, it's coming from the [[Collective Unconscious]]. There may be mythological connections.
My analyst explained that big dreams come predominantly when the Ego is forced into a situation of defeat in a life experience. The ego surrenders to [[The Self]] and the big dream comes.
