Use damp paper, not wet. I can do a couple of layers of water. Be patient. Let the water dry to damp.
Always pre-wet the palette.
Often the brush is too wet. After dampening the brush take some of the water off before putting the brush in pigment.
There’s often too little pigment on the brush. It needs to be a honey consistency. See [[Water to Paint Ratios for Watercolour]]. You can tell you’ve got it if you can see swirls as you move the paint on the palette.
Don’t fiddle around on almost dry paper. Let it dry. Come back in with a fresh clean layer of water and then you can add honey on to damp without affecting the shapes underneath.
