### Blending
Creates soft gradients, unifies colours in the composition
Use to give smooth transitions between colours
### Hatching & Cross-Hatching
For shading and adding texture
Hatching is parallel lines or strikes
Cross-hatching is hatched lines at different angles to create a mesh-like pattern. Adds depth
### Scumbling
Creates texture, adds highlights, suggests light on surface
Tap or dab the pastel onto the paper
### Stippling
Builds up texture or crates subtle shading to suggest depth and shadows
Small dots or marks. Vary the density and spacing
### Feathering
Create soft edges, blend colours seamlessly, render delicate details
Light gentle strokes or soft touches of the pastel for a feathery effect
### Scraping & Lifting
Create highlights, add texture, refine details
Use a sharp tool to scrape off layers of pastel
Lifting uses an eraser or piece of tape. It’s for creating lighter value or fixing mistakes
