1. Show up. Whether it’s to one word or fifty poems, be there for it.
2. Forget about making it good. Make it emotionally true. Meaning not written to be clever or to impress people. Just keep asking “What’s the next true thing?”
3. Write past any endings that you know. Let the writing, or I’m going to say any form of self-expression, be a process of discovery not reportage.
4. Share. Think of mindfulness as continuously inhaling. There needs to be exhale to keep the process going. It doesn’t have to be public. It doesn’t have to have my name on it. But sharing of any form is a kind of communion.
