Up: [[Greek Mythology]] Created: 2026-01-30 Updated: 2026-11-01 Hecate is Greek mythology’s sorceress or goddess of the crossroads. She is best known for the assistance she provided Demeter in searching for Persephone — see [[Persephone - A Forced Descent]] — and for being Persephone’s companion in the underworld for half of each year. Hecate rules from the shadows. She mediates between seen and unseen realms; the [[Liminal Space]]s of crossroads, gates, and thresholds; the waning and dark phases of the moon, as well as magic and witchcraft. She is a triple-faced goddess, not as maiden, mother, crone, but rather able to simultaneously see past, present, and future. Hecate was worshipped in Greek homes as a guardian against harmful spirits. For us in modern day, she is an archetype of the truth seeker and may be of particular value to older women as an archetype of wisdom gained through intuition and experience. She reminds us to pause and reflect before we choose our next direction.
