Up: [[Water-Based Media]] Created: 2025-05-17 Start with a very watery version of all colours. Less and less watery as you do more layers. This will give volume. #### Sky - can use cerulean blue as is or can mix in a little cobalt - If the sky is gentle and mild, dilute the blue Leave some parts of the sky untouched to show white clouds. The sky is a dome shape. Paint slightly down to the right. After the median line, go slightly up. It makes the sky look more expansive. #### Land and Rocks - Use yellow ochre for the first layer. Dilute it for underpainting. - Van dyke brown or burnt umber for rocky areas. Mix with a little bit of yellow ochre - For rocks and driftwood, blend together yellow ochre and burnt sienna. It’s supposed to be a bit uneven. - If don’t have Van Dyke brown, can mix burnt sienna and a bit of purple. Or burnt sienna and a bit of cobalt blue. - Can get dark brown with cobalt blue and red Have three versions of the land colours like burnt sienna. Intense, diluted, and very watery #### Grass - For grass, use yellow green or spring green. Mix in a bit of yellow ochre - To shade the bottom of grasses, viridian and yellow ochre - If I want shade in green, viridian and burnt sienna Always start with brightest green first and mix in yellow ochre #### Trees - Use diluted yellow ochre for canopies of trees in winter or early spring - Olive brown and olive green to paint tree canopy #### Sea - Cobalt plus viridian, show a bit of variation in it
