Up: [[Story]] Created: 2023-06-28 There was a pair of new sneakers on the sidewalk one day. The story behind them captivated me. Why were they there? They were set so that they looked as if someone could have walked out of them, one foot at a time, but they were so far apart. Why so far apart? I thought it would be worth capturing the scene as a narrative photo, but it didn’t work. Two reasons: The shoes were so far apart that the story of someone walking out of them didn’t make sense. I would have needed to alter the scene and manufacture the story. The second reason, perhaps more important, was that the sneakers were brand new. That too made it difficult to find a story. When I took the photos, one of each shoe, they’re just new shoes on a sidewalk. There was no story and the photos were flat.
