1. Take a photo of your work. Seeing through the lens of the phone camera can give you fresh perspective on your piece. Convert it to black and white so you can see the balance of values. Squint your eyes a bit and watch where your eye goes first. Make sure that is your focal point. If not, you might need to adjust values or composition or both.
2. Take a 10-20 minute break. Come back with fresh eyes.
3. Turn your piece upside down. Helps to see the composition and balance in a new way. Squint your eyes and trust.
4. Work on a different piece. Switch up your energy.
5. Journal about it for a minute. Sometimes just writing and venting about what is frustrating about the piece can release energy and help you get on with things.
6. Play some music and dance. Listen to your body, it will have different ideas than your mind.
7. Do something mundane. Wash dishes, vacuum, take a shower. Allows mind to wander and imagination to waken.
8. Sleep on it. Give it a breather.
