Up: [[Blue Box]]
Created: 2024-07-30
My Blue Box will be quite different from [[Jung's Red Book]]. Jung's Red Book is polished active imaginations and accompanying gorgeous art compiled and shaped from many years of anguished and deep personal reflection in his Black Books.
Jung was working alone and developing his theory, first and foremost for himself but ultimately of benefit to the world. I benefit from his theory, don't need to even attempt to reinvent that wheel. And I'm not alone.
### Obvious Differences
- A box rather than a bound book
- Because it's a box, it can hold many bound books plus individual pieces of art with accompanying text, photographs, sculptures, memorabilia like my hand puppet
- And because it's in a box, the pieces can be developed and assembled over time. I don't need to wait until I've done years more work.
### Questions
- Is thematic the way to go? And if so, what themes?
- Would there be value in working from a Jungian glossary of terms?
- Where does my very extensive tarot work fit in? Would tarot be a good organizing structure?
- How much non-fiction writing/information do I want in the box compared to personal life writing?
- Who am I writing to? Myself? Family or friends? Pacifica Graduate students?
- How personal do I get? Can I be as brave as Jung, as vulnerable as Nick? And if I can, how do I manage the dangers that exist in my inevitable desire to polish and shape whatever goes in, especially bound books?
### Thoughts
If I'm not going to go deep, there is no difference between my Blue Box and a steamer trunk full of old letters and diaries. There's nothing wrong with the latter. It's just not my version of Jung's Red Book if it's not depth focused.
I want depth focused.
Looking back at my note [[Tarot Memoir]] from over a year ago, this feels like the right structure for me, especially if I can get each card down to a single keyword/theme. And I'm revitalizing my old idea of 8 or 16 page magazines, one per card similar to *Look at Us Now: The Nifty Year*. I'd need to learn Adobe InDesign, which is something I've always wanted to do. Some could be 8 pages, some 16 depending on how much content I want to include. Could I do the art and writing for everything in it other than maybe include the copyright-free RWS card for reference? The Blue Box then would be much smaller, built to hold the library of 78 magazines. Perhaps even a custom designed cardboard box. That would be a true artist's box and I could print several of them. Tie Jungian glossary terms to the various cards.
### Further Thoughts the Next Day
Rereading these notes and sleeping on the idea, it still has merit. I can simplify a fair bit in terms of technical stuff. Adobe InDesign is expensive and takes a long time to learn. There are many [alternatives](https://www.techradar.com/best/adobe-indesign-alternatives#) Another option is [Canva](https://www.canva.com/magazines/). They’ll print and send.
An alternative to having them printed professionally is for me to print on 11x17. The print quality wouldn‘t be anywhere near as good.
I’m getting ahead of myself, way far ahead of myself. What I need to figure out is how to set up FireWork to make it easier to corral and develop this huge quantity of material.
